Spending time with others not only helps prevent loneliness, but also helps improve memory, increases your sense of wellbeing, and can actually extend your lifespan. In fact, a study has shown that kids who participated in boating were more likely to engage in a whole host of other healthy daily activities and less screen time.

The science on the benefits of being near or on the water are pretty extraordinary. So much so that “simply the mere sight and sound of water promotes wellness by lowering cortisol, increasing serotonin, and inducing relaxation.” A recent Canadian study found that living close to the water actually reduces risks of mortality from diseases by 12–17%.
